Clinic Flow

De-identified information (with no PHI) is collected in conjunction with PHSKC epidemiological requirements.
This information is entered into a secure, UWSOM-approved REDCap system for analysis. On-site storage of information is locked in a private, secured area.
In the event of a positive result, PHI is collected in order to facilitate transfer of client into PHSKC’s care at the One-on-One clinic at Harborview; PHI for that client is then destroyed once the client is confirmed to be under the care at One-on-One. No follow-up care is indicated except in the event of a positive test result. In such an instance, confidential PHI will be collected on paper to facilitate referral of the individual to PHSKC; specifically, name and phone number are collected to ensure the individual is connected with PHSKC for confirmatory HIV testing and referral to the One-on-One program at the STD clinic at Harborview. Epidemiological data, is entered into a secure database, and has no associated PHI. Health education and counseling includes, but is not limited to HIV and STI prevention, identification, and treatment, risk reduction strategies, and community resources for topics such as STI testing, PrEP counseling, and mental health counseling. Testers do not mention therapies or provide general medical advice outside of trained competencies, as approved by the faculty advisor. Students provide physical flyers and handouts to clients with general information about many of the topics listed above. Students also provide condoms and lube to clients if they wish

Provider Information
Preceptors are on-call at all times when students are testing, in the event that the tester needs or requests any additional information or advice regarding any clinical situation that may arise during a client encounter. Preceptors are not necessarily present on-site. Training of new preceptors involves an introduction to UTEST processes and preceptor responsibilities. This training and onboarding is done by current leadership with input from the UTEST faculty advisor.
