UW Med for Ed develops and mobilizes medical students to become leaders in their community, expanding opportunities for children and youth. Both by inspiring children who come from at-risk backgrounds and supporting entities that promote healthy activities for this community, we will work to address and improve upon the social determinants of education and health. Projects for the 2016-17 school year include: 1. Walking School Bus at Bemiss Elementary School 2. Classroom Assisting at Cooper Elementary School 3. Med Student Shadowing with high school students in the community 4. Newport High School Mentorship 5. Rogers High School Tutoring 6. Developing interdisciplinary student/professional health panels aimed at reaching out to rural and low income communities. Other projects may be pursued based on the needs of the community.
